DNC® updated by the Vector Product Format (VPF) Database Update (VDU) is authorized for navigation on certified systems such as the Electronic Chart Display and Information System-Navy (ECDIS-N) or comparable systems (33 CFR 164.01). DNC® Regions 18, 26, 27 and 28 are produced in partnership with Canadian Forces Mapping and Charting Establishment Hydrographic Services Office (Esquimalt). The DNC® is an unclassified vector-based digital geospatial intelligence database depicting significant features essential for safe marine navigation. DNC® consists of 29 DNC® Regions and is available on DVD-ROM and also available via the NGA Gateway: Digital patch updates and textual corrections to DNC® are also available via the NGA Gateway. Navigators must apply these changes per applicable system operating instructions to keep databases current and safe for navigation between new editions of DNC®.
