Procedures for setting up and running the VDU.bat for DNC Introduction: The VDU.bat is a batch file which was created to expedite the application of VDU library patches for an entire DNC region. **Note: A DNC edition patch should only be applied using the patch.exe file against the DNC folder.** Before starting VDU Application: * All VDU patches should be downloading from the DNC website on the WWW. * Once downloaded, all zip files should be unzipped into corresponding VDU folders, created for each region. * A CD-ROM should be created containing all VDU folders/VDU patches. * Copy one region of VDU Patches from the CD-ROM to C:\data\vdu\patch\win. Because the VDU Application is particular regarding directories, only the individual VDU patches should be copied and not the Window folder containing the VDU patches. VDU Applicaton Computer: * Located on the C-Drive, you should create folder called Baseline DNCs. This Baseline DNC folder should contain the current edition DNCs. Example: C:\Baseline DNCs * In addition to the Baseline DNC folder, there are other folders that should be created for the use of the VDU.Bat application or Patch.exe application. * Create the following Directories a. C:\data b. C:\data\vdu c. C:\data\vdu\software d. C:\data\vdu\software\win e. C:\data\vdu\patch f. C:\data\vdu\patch\win g. C:\data\DNC01ED23_baseline **Note** DNC01ED23_baseline is an example of a specific DNC folder that should be created for all DNC baseline editions. The C:\data\ could contain some or all of the 29 DNC folders as per example. * Because VDU patches can only be applied to the current baseline version, you should copy the DNC Baseline Version to the directory containing the Baseline for VDU. Example: Copy DNC01 folder from C:\Baseline DNCs\ to C:\data\DNC01ED23_baseline Setting up the computer to run the VDU.bat: 1. The VDU.bat file along with the patch.exe and Patchw32.dll should be located in C:\data\vdu\software\win 2. Open several windows using the My Computer icon located on the desktop. Each window should be sized to fit and be visible on the desktop and will be used to drag and drop information into a Command Window (see (e.) below). a. Open My Computer to access the downloaded VDU Patches from CD-ROM. b. Open a window containing the location of the VDU software (example: C:\data\vdu\software\win) c. Open a window containing the baseline DNC and display at the DNC folder level (example: C:\data\DNC01ED23_baseline) d. Open a window containing the location of the VDU patches (example: C:\data\vdu\patch\win) e. Open a Command window using Start/Run i. cmd should be entered into the space to “Open:” ii. Once the Command Window is opened change the directory by typing cd C:\data\vdu\software\win iii. You can also type cd and drag and drop the address directory of the created window C:\data\vdu\software\win iv. The Command Window should change to C:\data\vdu\software\win 3. Drag and drop the VDU.bat file into the Command Window. Example: C:\data\vdu\software\win>C:\data\vdu\software\win\vdu.bat 4. Making sure the Command Window is active; add a space after the vdu.bat using the computer space bar. 5. Drag and drop the DNC folder into the Command Window. Example: C:\data\vdu\software\win>C:\data\vdu\software\win\vdu.bat C:\data\DNC01ED23_baseline\DNC01 6. Making sure the Command Window is active, add a space after the DNC01 using the computer space bar. 7. Drag and drop the folder containing the VDU patches. Example : C:\data\vdu\software\win>C:\data\vdu\software\win\vdu.bat C:\data\DNC01ED23_baseline\DNC01 C:\data\vdu\patch\win 8. Making sure the Command Window is active, press return. The Command Window should not immediately show errors or return to the C:\data\vdu\software\win 9. While the vdu.bat file is running, you can make the Window containing the DNC folder active and double clicking on the DNC folder to view the Libraries. You should select to view the “Details” of the library folders using the “View” pulldown on the top section of the window C:\data\DNC01ED23_baseline\DNC01. As the patches are applying, the date and times of the folders should change sequentially beginning at the first library to the last library. **Note: The Browse Library will not change date or time as NGA does not VDU this library. ** 10. Once the last library is completed or has changed date and time, you should open a couple of the libraries and review the Lineage.doc file to check the NTM information. The NTM should reflect the intended NTM for the VDU Patch. ** Note: All libraries should have changed date and time. If not, then those libraries that did not should be checked for Lineage.doc or VDU Patch failure. ** 11. The applied VDU patches contained in C:\data\vdu\patch\win should be deleted and a new DNC region VDU patches should be copied into this directory. 12. The window containing the baseline DNC should be changed to reflect the corresponding DNC region VDU Patches. 13. Steps 3 to Step 12 should be repeated until all intended VDU is applied. Conclusion: After all VDU has been applied and confirmed successful, the updated DNC Libraries and folder can deleted from the computer to await the next VDU Cycle. Before the next VDU Cycle, a new copy of the baseline DNC should be copied to the VDU baseline. Example: Copy DNC01 folder from C:\Baseline DNCs\ to C:\data\DNC01ED23_baseline
